iGeneration

Neologismo dos últimos tempos: iGeneration. Em português, a "Geração Eu". Numa época onde se fala o tempo todo em "inclusão digital", esquecemos que para isso estamos entrando num processo complexo de exclusão social.

Confesso que não sabia que existiam "Festas do iPod", ou, mais precisamente, festas sem DJ onde os convidados levam seus iPods e dançam em ritmos diferentes, trocam músicas e pouco conversam. Porém, nem precisamos pensar em tecnologia avançada para ver que a sociedade ruma para a individualização. Eu diria que essas "festas" garantem algum contato social mínimo.

Os deliverys por telefone já faziam com que as pessoas não saíssem de casa. A internet só veio ampliar esse serviço para quase todos os segmentos. Pai do iPod, o walkman já excluía seu ouvinte do mundo que passava a sua frente. O MSN e outros chats virtuais substitui a necessidade de eventos para encontrar e fazer amigos (proteção?). A realidade virtual (protagonizada hoje pelo Second life) permite que um indivíduo seja outra pessoa, tenha poderes, ganhe dinheiro e ache isso mais interessante do que a "realidade real". O videogame Wii retira a necessidade de praticar esportes coletivos ao transmitir os movimentos do jogador para o personagem virtual. E, em breve, novos equipamento farão com que pensamentos e sensações sejam também transferidos a personagens. Me parece que os filmes de ficção científica estão mais perto de acontecer do que se imagina.

Esse isolamento físico ainda traz problemas de ansiedade, descontrole do tempo real X tempo virtual, introspecção, sedentarismo, problemas de visão e audição e ainda abre a possibilidade para novos golpes de pedófilos, seqüestradores e ladrões.

Apesar do tom demasiado crítico – e até, de certa forma, pejorativo –, faço parte da iGeneration. Uso meu MP3 pra criar um fundo musical que me desliga dos meus problemas e dos transeuntes. Uso MSN, Orkut e e-mails para contatos sociais e profissionais (aliás, substituí o telefone pelo e-mail já faz tempo). Tenho minha vida controlada por um computador, porque me apego a seus benefícios. Me empolgo com a informação globalizada que muda a noção de tempo e me permite conhecer culturas, pessoas e curiosidades jamais imaginadas. Sou estimulado pelas inúmeras possibilidades de representação e criação abertas pela tecnologia.

Mas sei dos seus riscos. Sei fazer uma conta sem usar a calculadora. Tenho agenda de telefones e de compromissos com folhas pautadas e bem riscadas. Jogo bola e adoro praia. Tenho poucos, mas bons amigos. Os benefícios da iGeneration são muitos e devem ser aproveitados. Na medida certa.

Neologism of recent times: iGeneration. In an era of "digital inclusion", we forget that we are entering on a complex process of social exclusion. I confess that I didn'n know the "iPod parties", or, more precisely, parties without DJ where the guests take their iPods and dance in different rhythms, exchange music and talk a little. But we don't need to think only of advanced technology to see that society goes to individualization. I would say that these "parties" guarantee some minimum social contact. Phone deliverys had already made people stay at home. Internet had only extended this service to almost all segments. Father of the iPod, the walkman had already excluded its listener from the world. MSN and other online chats replace the need for make friends (a kind of protection?). The virtual reality (the "Second Life") allows an individual to be someone else, be empowered, make money and find it more interesting than the "real reality". The Wii videogame cut the need to practice sports collectives: it transmits the movements of the player for a virtual character. And, soon, new equipments will make that thoughts and feelings are also transferred to the characters. It seems to me that science fiction are closer to happening than we imagine. The physical isolation also brings problems of anxiety, no-control of real-time X virtual time, introspection, sedentary lifestyle, problems with vision and hearing, and also opens the possibility for new attacks from paedophiles, kidnappers and thieves. Despite the critical tone – and even negative –, I'm part of the iGeneration too. I use my MP3 to create a musical background that takes me off of my problems and passersby. I use MSN, Orkut and email for social and professional contacts (now i replace the phone by e-mail). I have my life controlled by a computer, because I'm attached to their benefits. I'm excited with the global information that changes the concept of time and allows me to know cultures, people and curiosities never imagined. I am encouraged by the numerous possibilities of representation and creation opened by technology. But I know their risks. I know how to make an account without a calculator. I have phone and commitments agendas. I play soccer and love beach. I have few, but good friends. The benefits of the iGeneration are many and should be exploited. As far right.

Urca X IED

Há algum tempo, vemos nos jornais a confusão que está rolando entre moradores da Urca sobre a instalação do IED (Instituto Europeo di Design) no prédio do antigo Cassino da Urca. Por enquanto, a briga (ainda pacífica) está ganhando contornos interessantes com marcas, ilustrações e propaganda que parece eleição ou plebiscito.

Eu fico pensando... se o Instituto fosse conhecido aqui no Brasil (como deveria), haveria tanta confusão? Volto essa pergunta ao design... se as pessoas realmente soubessem o que é design e todos os benefícios que ele pode trazer, será que haveria tanta manifestação contrária?

Agora o IED vai ter que mostrar serviço, quando for instalado. Vai ter que mostrar que é um bom negócio tê-lo por aqui. Isso pode ser um tremendo lado positivo para área. Na minha opinião, o IED tinha que começar a agir antes de sua implantação. Começar a apresentar aos moradores todos os benefícios que podem trazer, não só para a Urca, mas para o Estado e para toda a área do design.

URCA x IED
For some time, we are seeing in the newspapers the confusion between Urca residents and the installation of IED (Instituto Europeo di Design) in the building of the former Urca's Casino. For a while, the fight (peaceful yet) is gaining interests contours with brands, illustrations and propaganda like elections and referendum. Then I am thinking... if the Institute was known here in Brazil (as it should), would be there so much confusion? Now this question to design... if people really knew what is design and all the benefits it can bring, will be there so much demonstration against it? Now the IED will must show some action when installed. It will must show that it is a good business for us. This can be tremendous positive for the area of design. In my opinion, the IED should begin to act before their deployment: begin to present the residents all the benefits that can bring, not only for Urca, but for the State and for the whole area of design.

Inovação em bebidas

Saiu uma matéria na edição de março da revista Época Negócios sobre uma vodca de uvas: a Ciroc. É interessante ver as mudanças históricas que levaram à fabricação de novas bebidas. Confesso que ainda tenho dúvidas sobre a utilização da palavra "design". Entendo seu uso, mas toda ciência deve ser considerada como design por conter suas pesquisa e inovações?

LICQUER DESIGN?
A magazine published an article about Ciroc, a grape vodca. It's interesting to know about the innovations in licquer industry. But I still have doubt about the use of the word "design' there. Does every science is design because it has research and innovations?

Seal!

Sábado agora foi o show do Seal no Rio. Muito bom! Mais um sonho realizado! Uma boate com show ao vivo! Músicas dançantes, com clássicos sensacionais como Crazy, Killer, The Beginning, Love's divine e Kiss from a rose. As músicas do novo CD System são bem legais (Amazing é a "música de trabalho"). Sempre de branco, o cantor filho de nigeriano com brasileira foi super simpático e não parou de interagir com a galera fosse dançando, tirando fotos para os neuróticos celulares ou conversando mesmo. Fechou o show com chave de ouro cantando My vision e Bring it on.

Destaque: o bateirista (que aparece na foto com luz vermelha). Uma perna dava o ritmo, uma mão ficava no chocalho e a outra com a baqueta revezando entre o prato e o resto da bateria. Um polvo com coordenação motora!

SEAL!
Last saturday Seal made a show here in Rio. Awesome! Another dream came true! A night club with live show! Dance musics in sensational classics as Crazy, Killer, The Beginning, Love's divine and Kiss from a rose. The musics from his new CD System are great too (Amazing is the "work song"). Always in white, the singer – son of a nigerian and a brazilian – was very receptive, dancing all the time, taking pictures on neurotic cell phones and chating with the crowd. He closed the show with My vision and Bring it on. Highlight: the drummer (in the red light photo). He was an octopus with an incredible coordination!

Ligre?

Já ouviram falar em Ligre? Com L mesmo? É o cruzamento de um leão com uma tigresa. É o maior felino conhecido, podendo atingir 4 metros de comprimento! Isso acontece porque o gene inibidor do crescimento vem das leoas ou dos tigres machos, logo, os ligres nascem sem esses genes e estéreis. Esse tipo de cria só acontece em cativeiro, uma vez que leões e tigres não costumam dividir o mesmo habitat. A Natureza é incrível. Será que a gente precisava interferir?
